Aerospace Days!

On Saturday, April 26, 2014 and Sunday, April 27, 2014, the first Aerospace Days in Wise, Virginia was held at the Lonesome Pine Regional Airport. The event featured numerous rocket launches (of various sizes) and flights of remote controlled aircrafts. The event also recognized John I. Burton students J.W. and Kevin V. for their participation in the Student Spaceflight Experiments Program Mission 3.
All together, approximately 4,000 people participated in Aerospace Days from Saturday to Sunday. The highlight of the event was the sight of the International Space Station approaching to the sounds of the Close Encounters signal track and having lasers point to it as high powered rockets and various flying vehicles were launching simultaneously into the night.

Emerald Robinson, graduate of the University of Virginia's College at Wise, and host of  "On Science" was one of the emcees for the event. During the course of the event, Senator Puckett, Delegate Carrico, and Delegate Kilgore presented Norton City Public Schools and Wise County Public Schools with copies of a resolution passed in both the Senate and House of Delegates recognizing their participation in the SSEP program.
