Burton's baseball teams triumphed over Thomas Walker

Yesterday, Tuesday April 1, 2014, the Burton varsity and junior varsity teams traveled to Thomas Walker and returned home victorious. Varsity absolutely crushed Thomas Walker with a final score of 17-2. The eighth grade students also played a hard-fought game that in end, gave them a 2-1 win over Thomas Walker.

Burton's varsity team  played remarkably the entire game. The pitching was right where it should have been, which allowed Burton's players to field the ball and to make plays. The outfield was exceptional last night; outfielders were catching many of the balls hit to them, getting outs for the team. Center fielder, Cobye R., even made a spectacular catch in deep center field while falling backwards. Excellent fielding and great batting secured the crushing victory. The win was not without injury as, sadly, Austin J. broke his ankle sliding into third.

Burton's eighth grade, on the other hand, had a very close game that, in the end, was decided by perseverance. The eighth grade game only lasted three innings due to a one hour time limit, but Burton players worked fast. They attempted to score but did not until the top of the third inning, when they finally got the bats rolling, and even then they only put themselves up by one point. With a runner on third for most of the third inning, the pitcher, Jailen B., kept calm under pressure and persevered; he delivered three strikeouts to secure the win.
